The last thing I installed via a ter.gz file was a backported Broadcom wireless driver for my netbook. Besides, for me, not having anything but a tarball for installing in a Debian/Ubuntu or Red Hat/Fedora system = terrible Linux support. Now, I'm not one of those users who has to have the newest updates of everything, but with a browser, yes, I am. You'll quite possibly have to update some of the dependencies, which you have to handle yourself if you're not using apt or one of its front ends. ItWhich means that if you want to update said app you have to dl the new tarball, uninstall the existing version, and then compile and build the new version. Which means that Mint Update will not update any of those programs.

To get some package follow instructions on packagewaterfox-g4-kpe.

This package is built with LTO+PGO and support for SSE2 CPU instructions. If you install software from tarballs you're bypassing the mint/ubuntu/debian apt based packaging system. GENERAL Welcome Thanks to patches made by Debian team, Waterfox G4 is now available on my repository for Debian 9. Latest Waterfox G KDE Plasma Edition contains following patches: /hawkeye116477/waterfox-deb/tree/master/waterfox-g-kpe/patches.While I avoid installing via compiling and building from tatballs (tar.gz files) in general, I'd particularly avoid installing a browser like that. Latest Waterfox Classic KDE Plasma Edition contains following patches: /hawkeye116477/waterfox-deb/tree/master/waterfox-classic-kpe/patches. Note 3: Language packs are available as separate packages to install from apt repository! You can also download and install it directly from /repositories/home:/hawkeye116477:/waterfox/xUbuntu_18.04/all. If you got error about unmet depends, then you need to lookup what depends it needs (see control file for package), then download and install them manually or just do the step with adding repository instead of. Note 2: Grabbing packages directly doesn't always work without errors. Hovewer for KDE I recommend installing package waterfox-classic-kde, which also installs other depends required for proper working of KDE integration features. Note 1: KPE means KDE Plasma Edition, but package is compatible with other DE also and doesn't depend on KDE libs. Waterfox, a fork of the Mozilla Firefox browser, is designed for greater speed and privacy, as well as compatibility with older add-ons.
